The overall appearance of aging skin is primarily related to the cumulative effects of sun exposure over a lifetime. In addition, as people age, their bodies create less collagen which is a key component of the skin's foundation. As collagen decreases with age, skin begins to sag or wrinkle and this process is exacerbated with more exposure to the sun.
As the body ages it also becomes less efficient at managing the distribution and control of melanin - the essence of your skin's color or pigmentation. When the active melanin in your skin is not evenly distributed, it can cause age spots, freckles and other pigmentation abnormalities that may not be attractive.
Most age spots and pigmentation changes resulting from sun exposure can be improved dramatically or completely eliminated with pulsed light. The treatment consists of 2 or 3 passes of the pulsed light applicator over the desired treatment area. Without damaging the skin, the light penetrates through the skin and is absorbed by the abnormally dilated vessels or pigmentation. The heat causes damage to the vessel or lesion, and the body begins its natural healing process. The lesion will darken before it flakes off or the body absorbs it. Click here for "How It Works"
Most clients are treated about every 3 weeks. Although results are usually apparent after the first treatment, 4 or 5 treatments are employed to get maximum results.
Sun spots, age spots, hyperpigmentation, melasma, cholasma, mask of pregnancy, multiple freckles - all of these "Brown", melanin-based conditions of the skin improve dramatically with pulsed light treatments. Treatments on the back of hands requires only about 10 or 15 minutes. Facial treatments are usually about 20 minutes and treating shoulders and upper chest areas requires about 35 minutes.
